Colonialism and Translation (Vasahatushahi Mattu Bashanthara)
Colonialism and Translation is the outcome of a research project that I carried out in Kannada University-Hampi. The publication wing of the University, Prasaranga, published the book in 2006. The book explores the relationship between colonialism, nationalism (both Kannada and Indian) and Translation practices/patterns in the colonial period, mainly focusing on Princely Mysore/ Karnataka region. It also analyses the way Modernity gets scripted through translations modernizing the pre-modern social institutions. The book was released in a national seminar on "Translating Social Science into Indian Languages" organized by the Department of Translation Studies, Kannada University-Hampi in January, 2006.
